IPL Treatment in Walnut Creek

IPL, or intense pulsed light, is a light treatment for the marks the sun and time leave on the skin: sun spots, freckles, redness and broken capillaries. It is often called a photofacial. I perform every treatment myself with the Rohrer Spectrum, after a consultation where we look at your skin together and decide whether IPL is the right choice for it. Every price is listed below.

How IPL Works

IPL delivers pulses of light across a range of wavelengths. The brown pigment in a sun spot and the red in a small blood vessel absorb that light and turn it into heat, while the skin around them is left largely alone. Over the following week, sun spots darken and flake away, and redness fades as the treated vessels close.

Because the light is aimed at colour in the skin, IPL works best where there is a clear contrast between the spot or vessel and the skin around it. That is also why skin tone matters, and why I look at your skin before we decide anything.

What I Treat With IPL

  • •  Sun spots and age spots
  • •  Freckles
  • •  Redness and broken capillaries
  • •  Rosacea
  • •  Uneven skin tone
  • •  Some softening of fine lines

I do not use IPL for melasma. Light and heat can make melasma darker, so if that is your concern we will talk about other options at the consultation.

If the redness on your face is rosacea, IPL is often one part of a wider plan — see Rosacea Treatment in Walnut Creek. Spider veins on the legs are treated with a laser instead, on the Laser Spider Vein Removal page. For texture and deeper lines, erbium laser resurfacing goes further than IPL can.

How Many Sessions

Most people have three to six sessions, four weeks apart. That is a planning reference, not a rule, because it depends on how much sun damage or redness there is and how your skin responds. We look at the improvement together as we go and decide when to stop.

What to Expect

On the day. You wear protective eyewear throughout. A cool gel goes on the skin, and I pass the Rohrer Spectrum handpiece over the area in pulses. Many people describe each pulse as a warm snap, like a rubber band against the skin. A face, or an area of a similar size, takes about 20 to 30 minutes; larger areas take longer.

Afterwards. The skin looks red, like a mild sunburn, for a few hours to a day. Over the next two to seven days, sun spots darken — they can look like coffee grounds — and then flake off within about a week. Most people go back to their normal day straight away.

Aftercare. I go through it with you on the day, and the full instructions are on the IPL Aftercare Instructions page. Protect treated skin from the sun between sessions.

Is IPL Right for You?

IPL suits people whose main concern is sun damage, redness or uneven tone, on skin that is not tanned. It is not the right choice for everyone, and if it is not right for you, I will tell you.

IPL is not the right choice if you:

  • •  have a tan, recent sun exposure or self-tanner in the area, usually within the last four weeks
  • •  are pregnant
  • •  have taken isotretinoin (Accutane) in the last six months
  • •  take a medication that makes your skin sensitive to light
  • •  have an active cold sore, skin infection or open wound in the area

On darker skin tones the skin itself can absorb the light, which risks burns or patches that are lighter or darker than the skin around them. I decide at the consultation whether IPL is safe for your skin, and if it is not, we will talk about what is.

I’ve gone to Dr. Moazemi at Beau Visage several times, including visits with colleagues, laser treatments and microneedling. He is always incredibly kind, gentle, and easy to work with. He takes his time, makes you feel comfortable, and is very accommodating with scheduling. His pricing is also excellent and very reasonable for the quality of care and treatments he provides. I’ve had a consistently great experience and would definitely recommend him!

I started microneedling with Dr. Moazemi this year and the results have been amazing, my skin is glowy and bouncy. I’d had microneedling before elsewhere and never got results like this. Dr. Moazemi is thorough in explaining treatments and recommends plans that actually deliver. I also get hydrafacials from Jen, and I bring my mom too, we both love the results, especially before big events. The space is friendly and professional from top to bottom. Highly recommend!!

I cannot recommend Beau Visage highly enough, and Dr. Moazemi is truly in a league of his own. Not only is he exceptionally skilled in facial aesthetics, but his bedside manner is also unparalleled. He is incredibly kind, patient, and always takes the time to thoroughly answer every question I have so I never feel rushed. In an industry that can sometimes feel transactional, it is very clear that Dr. Moazemi genuinely cares about achieving the best possible outcomes for his patients rather than just pushing procedures. I completely trust him with my face and wouldn’t go to anyone else.

I had an appointment with Dr. Moazemi for Botox and filler, and I couldn’t be happier with my experience. From the start, he took the time to thoroughly explain the procedures, including the areas that could be improved, and never pressured me into anything. He’s kind, confident, and made me feel completely comfortable throughout. It’s only day 3, and I can already see results! I know the final results aren’t fully settled yet, but I can already notice more symmetry and natural enhancement. I highly recommend Dr. Moazemi to anyone looking for someone professional, thoughtful, and talented.

I have been coming to Dr. Moazemi for treatments over the last year including Botox, PRP injections, and recently a Hydrafacial. I couldn’t recommend him enough! Everyone was so kind and professional. Pricing was very fair, especially since you are receiving the best quality of care and products. Dr. Moazemi was incredibly knowledgeable about facial anatomy and took the time to explain everything. I’m very happy with my results and my skin has never looked better. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone!

After reading the tons of positive online reviews about the Beau Visage Aesthetics, I decided to give it a try. And I'm so glad I did. I've been a client for about 2 years now, and i couldn't have been happier. Dr. Moazemi is very knowledgeable and patient. He explains the procedures in details and takes the time to answer all the questions. His precise hand and knowledge about human anatomy and physiology plays a big role in the always best outcomes of every procedure he does.I trust Dr.Moazemi 100%, and I highly recommend him. Thank you for keeping me beautiful :))
Dr. Moazemi has been wonderful to work with. When I started considering laser hair removal I called around to so many places because I know working with Hispanic skin can be challenging and not all lasers work. Dr. Moazemi called me back personally to discuss the options and make a recommendation. I’ve had two treatments so far and have had way more hair reduction than I expected. His prices are also very good for this area. Highly recommend Beau Visage!
