Chemical Peels in Walnut Creek
A chemical peel removes the tired outer layers of the skin so that fresher skin replaces them. We use two lines: Image Skincare peels, which are light and need little or no downtime, and VI Peel, a medium-depth peel for pigment, acne, acne scarring and fine lines. Every price is listed below. Our licensed esthetician performs the peels and will help you choose the one that suits your skin.

Which Peel Is Right for You?
The right peel depends on what you want to change and how much downtime you can take.
• Dull skin, uneven tone, early fine lines, or your first peel — an Image Skincare peel, or the VI Peel Original.
• Dark spots, sun damage or melasma — the Image Lightening Lift, or the VI Peel Precision Plus.
• Active breakouts or oily skin — the Image Acne Lift, or the VI Peel Purify.
• Acne scars and the dark marks acne leaves behind — the VI Peel Purify with Precision Plus.
• Deeper lines and skin that has lost firmness — the VI Peel Advanced.
• Skin below the collarbone — back, chest, arms, hands, bikini area — the VI Peel Body.
If you are not sure, our esthetician will look at your skin and recommend one.
Image Skincare Peels
Light peels with little or no visible peeling. They suit a first peel, a busy week, or regular upkeep between stronger treatments. Each takes about 40 minutes and costs $140.
• Wrinkle Lift Peel — glycolic acid and retinol, with vitamin C, for fine lines and skin that has lost its bounce.
• Acne Lift Peel — a combination of AHA and BHA acids to clear and calm oily, blemish-prone skin.
• Lightening Lift Peel — lactic acid, kojic acid and vitamin C with botanical brighteners, for dark spots, sun damage and dull skin.
• Signature Facelift Peel — a gentle peel with vitamin C, hyaluronic acid and plant enzymes, for dull, dehydrated or irritated skin. It suits sensitive skin and makes a good first peel.
• ORMEDIC Enzyme Peel — very mild, with aloe, pumpkin and papaya enzymes, for sensitive or reactive skin, or skin recovering after a stronger treatment.
VI Peel
A medium-depth peel. You leave looking much as you came in; the skin then peels over the following week. VI Peel comes in six formulas, and we offer all of them:
• VI Peel Original — for sensitive skin, a first VI Peel, early signs of aging and rough texture.
• VI Peel Advanced — the deepest of the range, for wrinkles and skin that has lost firmness.
• VI Peel Precision Plus — for pigment: sun damage, dark spots and melasma.
• VI Peel Purify — for active and hormonal acne and oily, congested skin.
• VI Peel Purify with Precision Plus — for acne scarring and the dark marks left after breakouts.
• VI Peel Body — for skin below the collarbone: discoloration, body acne, rough bumps (keratosis pilaris) and the look of stretch marks.
VI Peel is made for all skin tones, including darker skin.
What to Expect
Before. Keep the area out of the sun and away from tanning beds for four weeks. Stop exfoliants, hair-removal creams and retinol products one week before. If you have taken isotretinoin (Accutane) in the last six months, wait. If you get cold sores, tell us when you book — a peel can bring one on, and we can arrange something to prevent it.
On the day. Our esthetician cleans the skin and applies the peel in thin layers. You may feel warmth or a mild sting for a few minutes; a hand-held fan helps. An Image peel takes about 40 minutes and a VI Peel about 45.
Afterwards. After an Image peel, the skin may look a little pink and feel dry for a day or two. After a VI Peel on the face, flaking usually starts on day two or three, peeling runs for a few days, and by about day seven it has settled. The body can take up to ten days. Keep out of the sun, do not pick the peeling skin, and follow your aftercare. The full instructions are on the Chemical Peel Aftercare Instructions page. VI Peel clients also go home with a kit and its own instructions.
How many. One peel makes a visible difference. For a lasting change, most people have three to six peels, four to six weeks apart.
Is a Chemical Peel Right for You?
Chemical peels suit most people who want to improve tone, texture, pigment, breakouts or fine lines. Skin tone on its own is not a reason to avoid a peel; the choice of peel matters more.
A peel is not the right choice if you:
• are pregnant or breastfeeding
• have taken isotretinoin (Accutane) in the last six months
• have an active cold sore, open wound or skin infection in the area
• are allergic to aspirin, phenol or hydroquinone (VI Peel)
• are having chemotherapy or radiation, or have had it in the last six months
• have an autoimmune or liver condition, or a condition that weakens the immune system
A peel will not lift sagging skin or soften deep folds. If that is your main concern, ask about Ultherapy or our other anti-aging treatments.
