Physician’s gloved hands gently framing a client’s lifted jawline during a PDO thread lift consultation in Walnut Creek

PDO Thread Lift in Walnut Creek

I am Dr. Kourosh Moazemi, and I perform PDO thread lifts for selected clients who want a modest lift without facelift surgery. The procedure is usually completed in about 30 to 60 minutes. Many people return to a light routine within one to three days, although swelling, bruising, tenderness, or dimpling may remain visible for one to two weeks. The early lift is visible right away, while the result generally settles and improves over the next two to three months. A typical result may remain noticeable for roughly 9 to 15 months, but the duration varies with your tissue, the treatment area, the number and placement of threads, and the natural aging process.

The most important part of a thread lift is deciding whether it can produce enough improvement for you. I begin with a consultation so I can examine your skin, facial structure, degree of laxity, and goals. We will decide together whether PDO threads are a reasonable option, whether another treatment would serve you better, or whether it is better not to proceed.

What a PDO Thread Lift Can and Cannot Do

A PDO thread lift uses absorbable polydioxanone threads placed beneath the skin. Barbs or cones on lifting threads engage the tissue and create a mechanical lift. As the threads dissolve, the healing response can also support new collagen around the treated area.

This is a refinement treatment, not a surgical facelift. It can improve mild to moderate tissue laxity, soften early jowling, and create a more supported cheek or jawline. It cannot remove substantial excess skin, reproduce the degree of correction available with surgery, or stop future aging. The result is also temporary.

Threads can also lift a low brow. If you would rather avoid threads, Ultherapy and Botox can give the brow a lift too.

That limitation is not a reason to dismiss the treatment. It is a reason to select it carefully. For someone who wants a subtle improvement and accepts a temporary result, a thread lift may be a useful middle ground. For someone with heavier tissue or advanced laxity, it may not provide enough lift to justify the procedure.

PDO Thread Lift Expectations at a Glance

Procedure Time

About 30–60 minutes, depending on the areas treated and number of threads

Back to a Light Routine

Often within 1–3 days

Swelling & Bruising

Commonly several days; sometimes 1–2 weeks

When Results Settle

The early lift is immediate; the result settles and improves over 2–3 months

How Long It Lasts

Often about 9–15 months, with meaningful individual variation

These are typical ranges, not promises. Your recovery and result depend on your anatomy, treatment plan, healing response, and adherence to aftercare. My full PDO thread lift pre- and post-care instructions are on their own page.

PDO Threads for the Cheeks

Cheek laxity can flatten the upper cheek and deepen the transition toward the lower face. A PDO cheek lift is designed to reposition selected tissue upward and improve support without adding volume by itself.

During your consultation, I look at whether the concern is primarily tissue descent, volume loss, skin quality, or a combination of these. Threads may help when laxity and volume loss is the main problem. If volume loss solely is driving the change, another approach may be more appropriate. We will choose the least complicated plan that can reasonably produce the natural improvement you want.

PDO Threads for the Jawline

PDO threads may be used to improve early jowling and create a cleaner transition along the jawline. The treatment works best when there is enough tissue support for the threads to engage and the degree of laxity remains modest.

A thread lift does not remove fat, tighten the neck like surgery, or create a sharply different face. The goal is a refined jawline that still looks like you. If the lower face is affected by skin laxity, volume distribution, muscle activity, or submental fullness, I will explain which part a thread lift can address and which parts it cannot.

Who Is a Good Candidate for a PDO Thread Lift?

A reasonable candidate is generally healthy, has mild to moderate facial laxity, understands that the improvement will be subtle and temporary, and prefers a less invasive option with less downtime than surgery. appropriate expectations matter as much as age.

PDO threads may be a poor fit when the desired correction requires removal of excess skin, when tissue is too heavy for a predictable lift, when healing or infection risk is elevated, or when a client expects a surgical result from a minimally invasive procedure.

The Downsides and Risks of PDO Threads

The main downsides are that the result is temporary, and technique-dependent. Recovery is shorter than after surgery, but it is not always socially invisible. Swelling, bruising, tenderness, temporary asymmetry, puckering, or dimpling can occur.

A 2021 meta-analysis of 26 facial thread-lift studies reported swelling in 35% of patients, skin dimpling in 10%, altered sensation in 6%, visible or palpable threads in 4%, infection in 2%, and thread extrusion in 2%. These pooled figures combine different techniques, thread types, and patient populations, so they do not predict an individual’s risk. More serious injury is uncommon but possible, and contour irregularity, infection, inflammatory reaction, or injury to a vessel, gland, or nerve may require treatment.

I review the expected benefit against these limitations before recommending treatment. If the likely improvement is too small or the risk-benefit balance is not favorable, I will tell you.

Why Some Plastic Surgeons Dislike PDO Threads

Some surgeons object to PDO threads because the lift is less powerful and less durable than a facelift, published evidence is less standardized than it is for many surgical procedures, results depend heavily on candidate selection and technique, and complications such as dimpling, asymmetry, visible threads, infection, or extrusion can occur.

Those concerns are legitimate. They do not mean every thread lift is inappropriate. They mean a thread lift should not be sold as a substitute for surgery when surgery is the only treatment likely to meet the your goal. In selected clients who want a moderate lift, temporary improvement and understand the trade-offs, PDO threads is a great and reasonable option.

Is a PDO Thread Lift Worth It?

Definitely, when you want a moderate cheek or jawline lift, prefer a minimally invasive procedure, accept a temporary result, and understand that you may need future treatment to maintain the improvement. It is less likely to be worth it when you want a dramatic or long-lasting lift, have substantial excess skin, or would be disappointed by a refined rather than surgical result.

The answer is personal because value depends on the improvement that is realistically available to you, the recovery you can accept, the cost of the proposed plan, and how long you expect the result to last. My role is to give you an honest assessment before we decide.

What Does a PDO Thread Lift Cost?

PDO thread-lift pricing depends on the treatment area, the number and type of threads, the complexity of placement, and whether more than one region is treated.

Consultation: Complimentary

Cheek treatment: on Average $1200

Jawline treatment: $1200-$2000

Combined cheek and jawline treatment: $2500-$3500

Maintenance or repeat treatment: 10% discount for all returning clients

The consultation is where I can determine the appropriate treatment plan and give you a specific estimate. A lower advertised price is not useful if the plan does not match your anatomy or the result you want.

I started microneedling with Dr. Moazemi this year and the results have been amazing, my skin is glowy and bouncy. I’d had microneedling before elsewhere and never got results like this. Dr. Moazemi is thorough in explaining treatments and recommends plans that actually deliver.

I also get hydrafacials from Jen, and I bring my mom too, we both love the results, especially before big events.

The space is friendly and professional from top to bottom. Highly recommend!!

I cannot recommend Beau Visage highly enough, and Dr. Moazemi is truly in a league of his own. Not only is he exceptionally skilled in facial aesthetics, but his bedside manner is also unparalleled. He is incredibly kind, patient, and always takes the time to thoroughly answer every question I have so I never feel rushed. In an industry that can sometimes feel transactional, it is very clear that Dr. Moazemi genuinely cares about achieving the best possible outcomes for his patients rather than just pushing procedures. I completely trust him with my face and wouldn’t go to anyone else.

I had an appointment with Dr. Moazemi for Botox and filler, and I couldn’t be happier with my experience. From the start, he took the time to thoroughly explain the procedures, including the areas that could be improved, and never pressured me into anything. He’s kind, confident, and made me feel completely comfortable throughout.

It’s only day 3, and I can already see results! I know the final results aren’t fully settled yet, but I can already notice more symmetry and natural enhancement. I highly recommend Dr. Moazemi to anyone looking for someone professional, thoughtful, and talented.

After reading the tons of positive online reviews about the Beau Visage Aesthetics, I decided to give it a try. And I’m so glad I did. I’ve been a client for about 2 years now, and i couldn’t have been happier. Dr. Moazemi is very knowledgeable and patient. He explains the procedures in details and takes the time to answer all the questions. His precise hand and knowledge about human anatomy and physiology plays a big role in the always best outcomes of every procedure he does.I trust Dr.Moazemi 100%, and I highly recommend him. Thank you for keeping me beautiful :))
Dr. Moazemi has been wonderful to work with. When I started considering laser hair removal I called around to so many places because I know working with Hispanic skin can be challenging and not all lasers work. Dr. Moazemi called me back personally to discuss the options and make a recommendation. I’ve had two treatments so far and have had way more hair reduction than I expected. His prices are also very good for this area. Highly recommend Beau Visage!
