How Does Botox Work?
Botox works by relaxing and paralyzing the muscles underlying the targeted area of treatment, decreasing the depth of skin lines for younger, smoother skin and facial line features. Several factors contribute to facial lines over time. For example, cellular changes, reduction of collagen, damage caused by sun exposure and smoking. However, by far the most important factor in the deepening of those lines is the repeated muscle movements from different facial expressions including frowning, squinting, smiling or raising eyebrows. Botox treatments directly address this repetitive motion.
FDA Approved indications for administration of Botox include:
• Frown lines (the 11 lines between your eyebrows) • Crows feet (lines around your eyes) • Frontal lines (horizontal lines in your forehead) • Hyperhidrosis (Excessive sweating of armpits, hands or feet) • TMJ (Tempromandibular joint dysfunction) • Platysma (Nefertiti lift to soften muscular features of the aging neck)
Non FDA approved indications are including but not limited to:
• Treatment of Gummy Smiles • Kissing or smokers lines of the lips • Chin rejuvenation • Masseter hypertrophy (excessive enlargement of jaw muscles) • Flattening of lower eyelid and widening of the eyes (mostly in patients of Asian descent) • Modulation/Balancing of eyebrow position and shape
Does Botox Injection Hurt?
Most patients report a feeling of being pinched. We suggest applying an ice pack to the area before and after the treatment to reduce this sensation. For those who have a lower pain threshold, we can also apply topical numbing medication prior to treatment, with great results.
First, depending on whether you are a returning or new customer, we will take your medical history, assess your facial structure (or areas of concern) and discuss what results you would like to see. Overall, Botox treatments can take as little as 10 and up to 30 minutes.
Results Of Botox Injections
Typically, you can see a difference as early as 24-72 hours after treatment, and maximum results usually take effect in as little as ten days to two weeks.
How Long Do The Results Of Botox Last?
The effects of Botox last three months on average, but can last up to six months in some cases.
Side Effects Of Botox Injections
Every injection into the skin carries some risk of infection, injection site bleeding, bruising and or swelling. It’s important to let Dr. Moazemi know if you are taking any prescribed or over the counter blood-thinning substances prior to treatment. Three percent of patients experienced eyelid drooping in the frown lines studies, one percent of patients experienced eyelid swelling in the crow’s feet studies, and one percent of patients experienced brow drooping in the forehead lines studies. Additionally, other possible side effects include dry mouth; discomfort or pain at the injection site; tiredness; headache; neck pain; eye problems: double vision, blurred vision, decreased eyesight, dry eyes, and allergic reactions.

Dr. Moazemi has been wonderful to work with. When I started considering laser hair removal I called around to so many places because I know working with Hispanic skin can be challenging and not all lasers work. Dr. Moazemi called me back personally to discuss the options and make a recommendation. I’ve had two treatments so far and have had way more hair reduction than I expected.
