a woman with beautiful skin thanks to dermal fillers

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are a synthetic version of our bodies’ naturally occurring hyaluronic acids. The serums themselves are gel-like substances that mimic the texture of your underlying skin structure. Fillers have become this decade’s aesthetic frontrunners- from lips to cheeks to noses there is little that can’t be accomplished aesthetically with the strategic placement of fillers. These serums are injected under the skin to improve the volume and regain our youthful looks.
Lips, cheeks, temples and other areas with fine lines or volume loss are common targets for dermal fillers.

Dermal Fillers

General Information

Juvéderm collection of Dermal Fillers are the first and most researched group of dermal fillers produced and backed by well known Allergan company. They are believed to be the world’s number one selling dermal fillers. There are several different indications for administration of each of these product lines and a thorough professional evaluation is required for the best and long-lasting results. It is well known that application of this group of derm fillers is practitioner dependent and relies on appropriate evaluation and experience with this line of products. We suggest not to put the health and longevity of your face in hands of just anyone, experience matters.

How Do I Know Which Dermal Filler is Right for Me?

Each specific member of the Juvéderm collection is a little different. Deciding which to use depends on factors such as, your goals and facial structure. For example, Volbella is a thinner gel used to rejuvenate delicate areas around the mouth and for lip enhancement. Volbella creates a very subtle and natural looking enhancement. There are thicker gels in the Juvéderm collection like Juvéderm Ultra that provide a bolder and more stand out look. Together we can discuss the differences and create a treatment plan that is geared towards your needs.

What Will the Treatments be Like?

Depending if you are a returning or new customer, I will take your medical history, asses your facial structure and discuss what results you would like to see. Juvéderm is not a surgical treatment, depending on the area of the face and the specific Juvéderm gel being used, treatment time can be in as little as 15 minutes up to 1 hour.

Will My Dermal Fillers Hurt?

Most people experience mild pain during the actual injections, this is minimal and can be treated with over the counter analgesics after your appointment.

When Will I see Results?

The results from your filler treatment are immediate.

How Long Will the Results Last?

The effects last on average 1 year, but depending on the gel used results can last up to 2 years.

Does Juvederm Have Any Potential Side Effects?

Every injection into the skin carries some risk of infection, injection site bleeding, bruising and or swelling in addition to other side effects or complications specific to each product, we will discuss those before your injections so that you can make an informed decision about your treatment plan. To help with swelling we can apply an ice pack to the treatment site following the injection. Its important to let me know if you are taking any prescribed or over the counter blood thinning substances prior to treatment. One of the risks with using these products is unintentional injection into a blood vessel, and while rare, the complications can be serious and may be permanent.

Do I Need to Prepare for My Filler Appointment?

Yes, please do the following:

Don’t use hydroquinone, and benzoyl peroxide acne products 5-7 days before treatment
Discontinue use of any anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen or Motrin for three days before treatment.
It’s relatively common to see bruising in the area after treatment, to reduce this risk discontinue any blood thinning agents like aspirin or fish oil seven days prior.
Do not use skincare that may increase sensitivity: retinoids, exfoliants or acids (such as alpha hydroxyl acid (AHA) or beta hydroxy acids (BHA)
No unprotected sun exposure for at least two weeks prior to your appointment
Don’t shave the area on the day of your treatment; this can cause additional skin irritation
If you are prone to cold sores, ask Dr. Moazemi about an antiviral agent for two days prior to and on the day of treatment

What Can I expect During My Dermal Filler Consultation?

When you arrive for your appointment, you will be taken to one of our private, comfortable rooms. From there we will clean your skin and add a numbing agent to make you more comfortable. After the numbing agent has had a chance to work Dr. Moazemi will take the time time to answer any lingering questions and then inject the filler you have selected during your consultation.
